Monasteries & Churches

In each corner of Paros, from coast to coast, white chapels are all around. They used to 'live' in fear of pirate attacks and so were surrounded by protective walls with an interior courtyard. The churches of Paros are built in a great variety of styles: small and large, some with domes, others connected, some with a plain cross, others with artistic bell towers. Each one is connected to a historical fact, a myth, a miracle making... Each one unique.

Parikia

Ekatontapiliani or Katopoliani, 4th cent. BC. The precious jewel of Paros. It is one of the most significant Early-Christian monuments in Greece. On the southern side there is the marble baptismal font, the oldest and best preserved of its kind in all the eastern Orthodox countries. The church celebrates on the 15th of August with the biggest festive events of the year, that live up to its grandeur. (www.ekatontapyliani.org)
