Brief description of the museum
In the archeological museum of Paroikia one can see findings from excavations that unfold a history of 6,000 years. From the prehistoric settlement of isle Saliago (Neolithic findings) comes the original marble figurine of the “plump woman” symbolizing fertility, as well as excellent clay vessels.
The protocycladian civilization is largely represented by a great
number of exhibits, mainly burial donations. The Mycenaean settlement on
the hill of Koukounaria (Naoussa) has bestowed several interesting
vessels but the most significant group of mobile antiquities comes from
the Paroikia cemetery. The number of roman, glass and clay vessels is
also considerable, while in the museum’s patio Greek mosaics are
exhibited, found under Ekatontapyliani.
